Adoption Questionnaire

The following questions cover some of our basic concerns that we feel are important to understand when we consider a family for adopting a puppy or adult from CBWags4u Dachsies.

Please also note that our litters are pre planned, and our puppy availability is dependent on our planned schedule - so if you desire a puppy from CBWags4u Dachsies it will be important to open a discussion regarding placement, have the adoption information approved, and to be on our waiting list.

We are selective in placing our puppies in the proper home environment, and reserve the right to refuse placement based upon our instinct and the validation for the information provided. Some questions that we ask are to provide us with a background of your "pet" ownership experience. We will provide help to anyone seeking to adopt a dachshund as a first time pet owner.  We will be available for assistance to all who adopt for the the lifetime of your pet.

It is our firm policy that when we place a puppy in your home the opportunity is provided to you for our lifelong support, and your personal information is retained in your puppy files with your purchase contract for our viewing only.

Our final decision is taking into consideration that we want both the puppy, and you to live a wonderful long and happy life together. If you are seeking Full Registration or a Show Potential Dachshund - Please provide us with two personal references (include name and phone numbers) of individuals that you know are also dog fanciers.  We are looking for information to support your interest in getting involved in AKC sporting events:

Describe how you or your family have planned for the emotional and financial responsibility of owning a dog.

Do you work outside the home, and how long will you be leaving your pet alone every day?

What is your or your family/personal lifestyle, and how will the Dachshund companion fit into your lifestyle?

Are there children in your home?  We ask that adults make sure that small children are always supervised with pets - for the safety of both the child and the pet.

What type of information have you used in deciding to select the Dachshund breed for a pet?

What information have you read or what is your personal knowledge about Dachshunds?

Do you own or rent your residence?  If you are renting we will need a statement from your landlord regarding the acceptance of pets - including multiple pets if you are adopting an additional pet.

Are you moving in the near future?  Please provide us with your new full address including the new street, city, and zip code - also new telephone numbers if those will be changing.

Name of Veterinarian nd contact phone number.  If you are adopting for the first time you may want to take some time to interview local Veterinarians.  You will need to schedule your first appointment which is required 72 hours after you bring home your dachshund.

How many pets other than the one you are asking to adopt live in your residence? 

What kind of pets do you presently own?

Are there any family members that have sever allergis, and if so are you certain that dog dander is not an allergen that will cause health issues?

Do you have a secure area inside of your home for the puppy when it is not supervised?

Do you have a fenced in yard or secure method for your puppy to go outside?

Will you be able to provide at a minimum - 30 minutes of exercise and play for the pet?

Have you ever house trained a dog?

Have you ever crate trained a dog?

Have you considered obedience trainining such as a puppy class?

Are you considering AKC events - limited registered dogs can compete in obedience, agility, rally, earth dog, and field trial events?

Do you understand the definition of AKC limited registration?  If you do not - I can provide you with information.

Are you considering breeding this puppy?

Have you ever surrendered a pet, and what were the circumstances?

Our companion pets are sold on a spay/neuter contract which means that written proof must be provided to CBWags4u Dachsies from the veterinarian that has preformed the spay or neuter.  Providing this proof validates our contract, and you will receive the limited registration papers for your pet.

Our adults are sometimes offered on a spay/neuter contract similar to our puppy contract with some modifications made that apply to an adult instead of a puppy.  AKC documents will be forwarded to you upon receipt of proof of spay/neuter.

AKC Full Registration is offered on puppies that have been carefully evaluated for their potential - we are very selective about offering this type of registration, and most often require co-ownership of the dog to ensure that our full registration contract is followed.

The evaluations that we perform on our Dachshunds - for show potential does not guarantee a championship - that is up to you to compete/complete.

Our intention in co-ownership of Full Registration dachshunds is to ensure that our specific terms are met with regards to showing, and that the Dachshund Club of America guidelines be considered when breeding for future generations.

We will refuse placement to any home that uses an electronic collar for barking control, that de-barks their dogs, and that uses electronic fences.
