And it began...
My first Dachshund was around before I was born - she was a beautiful black & tan smooth standard girl - her name was Schnapsie. Schnapsie was such a sweet girl, and a very good family pet - she was a dachshund imported from Germany, and lived with us for many wonderful years.
Years later - as a young mother myself our family adopted a very special boy named Oscar. Oscar came from a pet store, and he was a dachshund that came from a puppy mill - I had no idea that my life was going to change so much because of this little red long miniature dachshund that we loved so dearly. Going into his second year of life he started to have seizures - then he started to gag and choke, and he was diagnosed with mega-esophagus along with myasthina gravis. I found by visits to many vets, and specialists - that nothing could be done to change his fate, and his health declined to where he was not able to eat or drink. Oscar was able to stay with us for four very special years, and when he left us I began to read and understand what happens in puppy mills, brokers, and pet stores that are really making money, and did not care about the animals they brought into the world. This type of business sickens me, and I decided that I would continue to educate myself, and take a proactive part for the betterment of the dachshund breed.
I am still learning - and I do have the help of good mentors and continuing education from professionals in order to confidently continue my life work in progress.
I am now retired from a full time (22 years was way too much time!) Government Management position, and can spend all my time enjoying the country life with our dachshunds, sewing, and gardening - something that I thought would only be a dream or vacation - it's real, and it's work,,,and I love it.
I am the primary caretaker of the dachshunds, and have formal, and practical training, education, and experience regarding the understanding of dog health, genetics, structure & behavior. I am involved with local dog clubs which also support local rescue efforts, and when possible I try to provide education of the breed to the public.
Our beginning focus was breeding our long coat miniature dachshunds which we are very proudly have fun showing in AKC events.
This past year we have done an extreme downsizing - having bred and kept the very finest of our miniatures, and added our first long coat standard dachshund.
My love of the Dachshund and objective is to continue to produce quality in the three important areas - health (careful study of genetics), proper temperament, and conformation.
I work in conjunction with my veterinarians on all aspects of health and well being of my dachshunds.
I have developed my own "Whole Dachshund Wellness Program" which includes routine preventive health care, balanced nutrition, and plenty of exercise, socialization, and activities so that every one of my dachshnds can develop to their full potential!
Our focus will continue to be the long coat dachshund in both sizes. We decided to keep for show - one smooth coat show prospect, and she is a little darling!
We welcome all your inquiries, and have a waiting list for companion homes placements for puppies. We also at times may have an opportunity arise where we choose to place an adult Dachshund. All adoptions are screened for approval, and we prefer to place our Dachshunds in homes that have lots of quality time to devote to their new companion friend.
Owning an animal as a companion is a commitment to their lifetime, and a beautiful experience that can enrich a family, and teach love of animals and responsibility to children.
We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and we hope that you come back to visit often. We would love to hear from you - comments, and inquiries are always welcome! Truly the world of dachshunds is an adventure...they will steal your heart forever!
